Why I Love Smoothies...a guest blog by Lisa Blaine

Drinking smoothies, especially the green ones, is a great way to include more vegetables into your nutrition. I love a green smoothie because it’s a great breakfast recipe and a great way to get a solid portion of green foods to kick off your day feeling energetic.

When veggies are blended, you will be getting a huge amount of fibre which helps to lower cholesterol and glucose levels. The satiety factor is high and it is a strong way to get vital nutrients in such as vitamin A and vitamin C, as well as potassium folate. Fibre is also an excellent substance to boost your digestion and improve some digestive disorders.

Green smoothies will also have chlorophyll - a powerful antioxidant that helps with Anemia and improves your immune system. Antioxidants are compounds which protect the cells in the body from stress and other health issues.

BENEFITS OF DRINKING GREEN SMOOTHIES:

🥬 Improved concentration

🥬 More physical strength and energy

🥬 Lower cholesterol levels

🥬 Improved digestion and metabolic functions

🥬 Increased consistency of vegetables consumption

🥬 Improved mood and gut-mind connection

🥬 Great hydration

🥬 Healthy morning boost of wellness to start your day just right!

TOP TIPS FOR MAKING TASTY & NUTRITIOUS SMOOTHIES:

  • If you want to up your antioxidants and iron, add spinach & kale - it should not change the flavour only the colour.
  • You can also play with the addition of nutrients by adding chia seeds, flax seeds or hemp seeds for good fats, fibre, minerals and vitamins.
  • Vitamin C is not made by our body yet we need it to maintain cellular health and for our body to absorb iron, boost eye health and immune system. Make sure to include Vitamin C rich ingredients in every smoothie (foods rich in vitamin C include kiwi, orange juice, papaya, strawberries, and tomatoes)
