Blackberry and Apple Crumble

Embrace the cosy season with this wholesome Blackberry and Apple Crumble. We’ve paired sweet seasonal apples with our antioxidant-rich PACK’D Organic Blackberries for a filling that bubbles with natural flavour.

Topped with a golden, oat-rich crumble made with coconut sugar for a caramel-like depth, it’s a healthier twist on a British classic. Simple to prep and perfect for freezing, it’s the ultimate winter warmer for family gatherings.

Base

  • 8 tbsp butter, cut into cubes
  • 90g / 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 90g / 1 cup rolled oats
  • Good pinch of flakey salt
  • 75g / 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Filling

  • 5 apples, peeled + diced (400g when peeled + diced)
  • 600g PACK'D Organic blackberries
  • 2 tbsp maple
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or tapioca starch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of flakey salt

Method

Filling

Preheat oven to 190C / 170 fan. Place apples and blackberries in an oven proof skillet or dish. Mix starch with maple, lemon juice, vanilla and pinch of salt in a cup until smooth. Stir into fruit until evenly coated.

Topping

In a medium bowl, combine flour, salt, coconut sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and pinch nutmeg. Add cubed salted butter, then use your fingers, or a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until large crumbs form. Then fold through the oats.

Assemble

Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the filling. Transfer to the oven and bake for 45 - 50 minutes, or until the filling is bubbling and the crumb topping has crisped up.

Allow the crumble to cool a little (15 - 30 mins) to thicken up, then serve with vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream or yoghurt.
